It is a longer, heavier visit that goes after built-up grease, limescale and dust in the places a weekly tidy skips: inside the oven, behind the taps, along the skirting, on top of the doors. Most London households book one before a regular schedule starts, before or after guests, at the turn of a season, or when a new tenancy begins. Where the extra hours go
The oven is usually the single longest task: shelves out and soaked, glass separated where the door allows, the cavity degreased. Extractor filters come out, the hob and splashback are stripped back, and the inside of the fridge and the microwave are cleared and wiped. In the bathroom, limescale is worked off taps, screens, tiles and shower heads rather than wiped over. Everywhere else the clean runs top to bottom: light fittings, door frames, picture rails, switches, radiators, skirting boards, then floors last. Windows are done internally. None of it is quick, which is why a deep visit in a two-bedroom flat is commonly five or six hours rather than two.
Getting the most from a deep clean
Book more hours than you think you need: a deep visit that runs out of time leaves the worst job half done. Empty the oven, the fridge and the bathroom shelves beforehand if you want that time spent scrubbing rather than sorting. Tell the cleaner at the start which two or three things matter most, because on a first visit almost nobody gets to everything. If a surface is already damaged — cracked enamel, failed grout, a stone worktop that has never been sealed — a deep clean will make that obvious rather than fix it. Cancel free up to 24 hours before.
